DO NOT FORGET
Do not forget My People
So long as you live, laugh, cry.
Do not forget My People
as long as you are who you are and your skin shines with Ebony Light.
Do not forget My People
the cries of our ancestors; their frustration, sorrow and pain.
The millions of African brothers and sisters stolen from their homeland and brought here to be slaves.
Do not forget My People
the injustice, the hatred, the Hanging Trees,
Slave Auctions and the destruction of black families.
Do not forget My People
what the KKK used Tar and Feathers for
and how our grandmothers and great-grandmothers were forced to be the master’s whore.
But, let the story of Black Slavery be part of your life. Tell it to your children and grandchildren, let it be felt in the bones of every black man and recognized in the face of every black woman.
Do not forget My People, that we are still fighting against discrimination.
We are still fighting for equality in America.
